Maddison House, Rescue Center
Below is part of the newsletter we have received from Fadhili.
We have finally launched the Fadhili orphanage! We named it after a little girl from the UK, Maddison.
Maddison died of a brain tumor in October 2007. In her honour, her family started a trust to raise money and help the less fortunate.
Her mother, Mrs. Jane Bignall was here in Kenya last month and donated about $4,300 to help start the orphanage. Since it was always Maddie's dream to come to Kenya and help the orphans of Kenya, we thought
it good to name the orphanage after her.
Since April 15th 2008, we have been able to admit 20 children into the new orphanage. These children have come from very harsh conditions and they
are very happy to be here. Yesterday (4th May 2008), we were able to take all of them to a school nearby. Last week
was very busy for us. We had to get uniform and shoes for all the children. In these very difficult times, it has been
very hard for us to raise money to do such things. Special thanks go to all the friends that have continued to support
us. The money for buying shoes was kindly donated through Claire Grove by her church in Orlando Florida.
Thanks!
There is still a lot to be done in the orphanage. Because we want for the orphanage to be self-sustaining, we want to start money generating projects like poultry keeping. We also have
not installed electricity yet. We still are asking people of goodwill to continue sending help our way. The reason we have
only 20 children is because we cannot afford more at the moment. We have room to host more children. All that we
need to do is buy beds, beddings and increase our resources for food provision. If you are in a position to buy a bed or two,
you r donations are always welcome!
I cannot finish talking about the orphanage without highlighting a story of 3 children who lost their mother about 2
weeks ago. Their father had died earlier of HIV. They did not have anywhere to go and it so happened that we were starting
the orphanage at the same time. They are now happy at the Maddison House. Even though they are still sad for losing their
parents, we are happy that they have a new home, other brothers and sisters who have been through hardships like they
God bless you.
